2000 'nd Snap
So who died and made you God’s gift to
the world you shallow attention seeker. We Millennials are so shallow, drugged
by the scent of instant gratification all we want is to take and take more
but who are we giving to?
The cycle of fashion or trends always
has a source, an igniter or movement that which is robust and true to itself
and posses a Mona Lisa art like stature. Yester years have seen fashion
movements and icons who have influenced the landscape of fashion beyond what
they have known to, the punk who have revolutionised youth rebellion copied and
pasted on the worlds runways then mass produced to a point where it had to come
back to the streets to find its home again. What we do not realise though is
that what has been mass produced are the souls, hearts and minds of the 60’s
London youths. They didn’t do it for the fame nor the money, whether they
became popular or not was inadequate but the fact that they were robust and
true towards themselves is the main reason they have reached a height so
desirable in pop culture.

Now as I see my peers posing with
Gagaesque tendencies on social networks as soon as they can just to say I told
you so and renaming themselves ‘swag so and so’ would have queen should in
uproar for abuse of her language, I ask myself do these kids actually know whom
are they a product of? They are actually a product of Grace Jones in this
respect. A product of her soul and what she feels in her heart, her expression
and how she chooses to display it and dress it up. It’s a poisonous gas killing
our urge to be original and robust, true to ourselves like a living art work to
inspire generations to come. All we aspire to lately is to take Gaga’s shades,
Kanye’s bags, Minaj’s lipstick and MIA’s wild jeans then pose, click click shoot
and share.
If we just considered not just to mimic
and pose, click click shoot and share for the purpose of instant gratification
but rather look to who we are and how your style can inspire and change the
world because if we take an honest look no one in our times is playing the role
of fashion idol to us, One to be remembered for years to come and possibly
start a revolution. In saying so the world is missing style authenticity and
fashion God status, the world of fashion
is currently a blank canvas hungry for new style, a style that has no shame and
does not consider others’ feelings a style with soul and a do not care attitude
so ask yourself if this could be you? Give us something to stare at, laugh at
then copy as our own for only then would you have reached style icon status.
For the sake of not sounding outdated, this particular post was drafted in 2011 so clearly it is way overdue but still relative I believe.
